Ms. Mary Alvin Harper Sanders, a resident of Ozark, Alabama, passed away
Sunday morning, February 4th, 2024 at Dale Medical Center at the age of 80.
Ms. Mary was the daughter and third child to the late Sanford A. Harper and the late Myrytrice Rance Harper. She was a lifetime member of Friendship A.M.E. Church. She was very soft spoken with a beautiful smile. She was a member of the Dale County Retired Teachers Association, Friendship A.M.E. Church Secretary, and the Pinckard Circuit. She was a member of Local Missionary Southeast and Conference Missionary.
Mary was the official family hostess for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. She was known for her famous chicken & dressing. She loved her family, enjoyed flowers, spending time with her family, and singing. She also adored and loved her little puppy, Teatoe, to the fullest. Ms. Mary was preceded in death by Sanford E. Harper, her brother.
Surviving relatives include her only daughter, Timeka Kenyetta Sanders, Ozark, Alabama; one sister, Christine H. Sanders, Ozark, Alabama; two grandchildren, Harmony E. Watts and Roger Lee Watts, Ozark, Alabama; two nephews, Sanford E. Harper II, Tampa, Florida, and Randall Harper, Pensacola, Florida; one niece, Sabrina Harper, Pensacola, Florida; sisters-in-law, Julie Mae Wolfork, Trussville, Alabama, Lizzie Mae Bell (David), San Antonio, Texas, Carolyn Harper, Sarasota, Florida; three brothers-in-law, Yvonne Sanders (Hildegarde), Banks, Alabama, Alexander Sanders, Dothan, Alabama, and Leocoula (Mayfield) Sanders, New York, New York; one aunt, Odahlia Rance, Saginaw, Michigan; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was born, raised, and lived in the Klondyke Community, Ozark,
Alabama, all her life. She graduated in 1961 from D.A. Smith High School. She continued her education at Tuskegee University for her Bachelor degree and furthered her education at Alabama State University to earn her Masters. She taught Special Education in Eufaula, Alabama and Daleville, Alabama. She retired from South Dale Middle School, in the Dale County School System, after 32 years of teaching.
